Storage as a Service (STaaS)
Storage as a Service (STaaS) is a model in which storage resources are provided as a flexibly usable service. Organizations obtain storage capacity on demand instead of procuring, operating and scaling it entirely themselves. STaaS can be used in public cloud, private cloud or hybrid environments and supports use cases such as file storage, backup, archiving, data platforms or business-critical workloads.
The benefits lie above all in scalability, predictable usage, standardized operations and lower infrastructure effort. At the same time, security, availability and compliance requirements must be clearly defined. These include access controls, encryption, data residency, retention rules and recoverability. In the context of Cloud Security, STaaS is therefore not only an infrastructure decision but also a security and governance topic.
Storage as a Service is closely linked to Data Protection, because stored data must be protected against loss, manipulation and unauthorized access. For resilient IT organizations, the question of how storage is integrated into backup, recovery and emergency processes also plays a role. Implemented correctly, STaaS thus also supports Cyber Resilience.
