Backup Orchestration
Backup Orchestration is the coordinated control of backup, verification and recovery workflows across several systems and environments – according to defined rules instead of as a collection of manually maintained individual jobs.
Modern data backup covers applications, virtual machines, cloud services and several storage targets with different policies. An orchestration layer manages schedules, retention and copy chains centrally, monitors the success and consistency of backups and automates regular recovery tests. Runbooks stored for an emergency define sequences, dependencies and escalations – who restores which systems in which order is then no longer a matter of improvisation.
Its value becomes apparent precisely in crisis situations: orchestrated, tested workflows significantly shorten the path to recovery and make recovery commitments reliable. Backup orchestration thus connects technical automation with operational priorities – an important prerequisite for functioning Cyber Recovery concepts.
