Cyber Recovery
Cyber Recovery is the controlled recovery of IT systems, data and business processes after a cyber incident. Unlike classic disaster recovery, the focus is not only on technical availability but also on the trustworthiness of the restored environment. After attacks such as ransomware, identity misuse or data manipulation, it must be ensured that systems go back into operation clean, secured and traceably.
Cyber recovery combines forensic analysis, recovery planning, backup strategy and security validation. Before returning to normal operations, causes must be understood, compromised accounts locked and persistent attack mechanisms removed. Cyber recovery is therefore closely linked to Incident Response and IT Security. Without this connection, there is a risk that an attack will take effect again after recovery.
A resilient cyber recovery concept defines critical systems, restart sequences, isolated recovery environments, clean data states and responsibilities in the event of a crisis. It supports organizations in remaining capable of acting even if individual security measures fail. Cyber recovery is thus a central component of Cyber Resilience.
