Digital Communications Governance (DCG)
Digital Communications Governance (DCG) is the controlled management, archiving, supervision and investigation of digital communication across all channels – in addition to email, also collaboration tools, messaging platforms, social media and mobile communication.
The drivers are the growing variety of channels and increasing regulatory requirements: business communication increasingly takes place outside the mailbox, but must be captured, retained and auditable in the same way. To this end, DCG combines policies (which channels are permitted, what must be retained), technology (capture, archiving, supervision) and processes (review, escalation, disclosure) in a common framework. Archiving, supervision and e-discovery are the operational building blocks within it.
For classification: Data Governance regulates the handling of business data as a whole – DCG applies this ordering logic specifically to communication data, whose volatility, volume and variety of channels pose their own requirements.
