IT Budget
An IT Budget is the planned financial framework for an organization's IT spending in a period, usually a fiscal year. It defines which funds are available for operating, developing and advancing IT and serves as a binding steering variable.
An IT budget is usually structured by cost types such as staff, hardware, software and licenses, cloud services and external service providers, as well as by purpose, often separated into ongoing operations and investment or innovation initiatives. The split into CapEx and OpEx is also part of planning. The planning process itself, from requirements gathering through coordination rounds to approval, is the core of IT Budget Planning and Forecasting.
During the year, the budget is managed by comparing it with actual costs and a continuously updated Forecast. Deviations act as an early warning signal and trigger countermeasures or reallocations before the budget is exceeded at year end.
