Bill of IT
A Bill of IT is an invoice-like statement of the IT services consumed by a business unit, with volumes, rates and amounts. It makes it clear to recipients at a glance which services they have used in a period and which costs result from them.
It is made up of line items following the pattern unit of service times volume times rate: for example 500 mailboxes at €5 (€2,500), 120 VPN users at €8 (€960), 300 VM hours at €0.40 (€120). Period reference, comparison with the previous month and the option to break down items to individual consumers are common. This reduces queries and objections because recipients can trace the origin of every charge. The statement is produced as part of IT Charging and Billing.
Its informative value depends on well-maintained volume data and transparently derived rates from the Rate Card for each service. The format works for showback as well as chargeback; in the first case it serves to inform, in the second to actually charge.
