TBM (Technology Business Management)
TBM (Technology Business Management) is a framework for the business management of technology that maps costs, resources and services in a standardized structure. It creates a common language between IT, finance and business units so that technology spending can be run and discussed like a business.
The core of the framework is a multi-level taxonomy that assigns costs consistently from cost pools via resource towers to services and solutions. The standard is maintained and versioned by the TBM Council. Its benefits lie in comparability and benchmarking across organizations as well as in stable reporting structures for decisions between CIO and CFO. The practical application in the cost model is described on the Technology Business Management page.
On the relationship between the terms: ITFM denotes the discipline of IT financial management, TBM a framework that gives structure to this discipline. The structure and versioning of the classification model are described in the entry TBM Taxonomy.
