Social Media Compliance

Social Media Compliance is the compliant management, monitoring and documentation of public communication in social networks. The term goes beyond pure social media management, because it is about verifiability, risk minimization and governance.

Concrete requirements concern, for example, the labeling of promotional content, approval processes before publication, the audit-proof archiving of business-relevant posts and interactions, and clear policies for employees who communicate on behalf of the organization or recognizably as its members. In regulated industries such as the financial sector, additional retention and monitoring obligations apply that explicitly include social channels.

In addition, there is the external perspective: fake accounts and brand abuse on social platforms affect compliance and reputation alike. Organizations must therefore ensure that posts, reactions and approval processes are not only effective but also auditable – organizationally anchored between marketing, compliance and IT.
