SaaS Data Protection

SaaS Data Protection is the set of measures with which business-critical data in software-as-a-service applications is protected against loss, manipulation, unauthorized access and permanent outage. These include access control, encryption, retention rules, monitoring and independent backup and recovery procedures.

It is particularly relevant that SaaS providers and customers have different responsibilities. Native recycle bins, versioning or availability mechanisms do not replace an independent data backup in every case. Organizations should therefore check which data, metadata and configurations need to be protected and how quickly individual objects or complete data sets can be restored.

SaaS data protection thus connects security, governance and recovery. It complements Cloud Security with the question of how data can be made reliably available again after operating errors, attacks or technical disruptions. Structured Data Management creates the basis for transparently controlling data and responsibilities across cloud-based applications.
