Recovery Readiness
Recovery Readiness is the actual degree of preparation of an organization for restoring data, applications and business processes after an outage or cyber incident. It is not only a question of whether backups exist, but whether people, processes and technology together enable a controlled restart in an emergency.
High recovery readiness includes defined recovery objectives, up-to-date runbooks, clear roles, available access credentials, prioritized systems, verified dependencies and regularly tested recovery points. Equally important is the question of whether required infrastructure and communication channels remain available even during a disruption. In this way, a theoretical backup capability becomes a resilient operational recovery capability.
Recovery readiness is essential for resilient Business Continuity Management. It should be measured regularly and continuously developed further through exercises, test restores and documented improvement measures.
