Configuration Backup
Configuration Backup is the backup of the settings and configuration objects of a system or application. These can include policies, workflows, role models, integrations, automation rules, network or security parameters. Such information is often just as business-critical as the actual payload data, because it determines how a service works.
A pure data backup is therefore not always sufficient for a complete recovery of a system or application. After misconfigurations, faulty deployments or unwanted changes, a defined earlier configuration state can significantly speed up the restart. Versioning, traceable points in time and the ability to restore individual settings or complete configuration sets are important here.
Configuration backup supports resilient Data Management and contributes to resilient Business Continuity Management. For security-relevant systems, restores should additionally be checked for unwanted or compromised settings before they are applied.
