Browser Isolation
Browser Isolation is a security approach in which risky web content is not executed directly on the endpoint but in an isolated environment. The aim is to protect users against malware, credential theft and dangerous web content without unnecessarily restricting the productivity of users.
With remote browser isolation, web pages are rendered on a remote server; only a harmless image or DOM stream is transmitted to the endpoint. Malicious code, exploits and malicious scripts remain in the isolated environment and do not reach the device. The approach is frequently used selectively – for example for uncategorized websites or links from emails whose risk is unclear.
Browser isolation is gaining importance above all where link-based attacks bypass classic filters and email security controls. As a complement to URL checking and email security, the technique is frequently part of a Secure Web Gateway (SWG) or of an architecture based on the Security Service Edge (SSE) model.
