Backup Scalability

Backup Scalability is the ability of a backup and recovery architecture to grow with increasing data volumes, user numbers, applications and backup requirements. Scalability means not only additional storage capacity, but also sufficient throughput, reliable backup windows and recovery objectives that remain achievable as the environment grows.

With increasing size, API limits, metadata volumes, parallel jobs, network bandwidth and restore performance can become bottlenecks. A scalable solution should therefore distribute load, expand capacity in a predictable manner and apply policies consistently even with many tenants or applications. It is equally important that monitoring and error handling grow with the environment.

Backup scalability supports resilient Data Management and scalable Business Continuity Management in the long term. The decisive factor is to measure scaling not only by backup success, but also by realistic restore times and operational manageability.
