All-Flash Storage
All-Flash Storage is the term for storage systems that rely entirely on flash media instead of classic hard disks. The central advantage lies in significantly lower latencies, high performance and consistent response behavior.
Modern systems use NVMe-based media for this and achieve access times that are decisive for databases, virtualization and analytics workloads. Economically, all-flash systems increasingly pay off beyond performance as well: inline deduplication and compression considerably increase the effectively usable capacity, while footprint, energy consumption and cooling requirements fall significantly compared with disk-based systems. A modern flash system thus often replaces several older storage generations.
For data center modernization, all-flash is therefore less a question of whether than of when – hybrid systems with a hard disk share remain relevant above all for capacity-driven, less latency-critical data. All-flash storage stands for the combination of technical performance and operational efficiency.
