Access Management
Access Management is the operational control and monitoring of access to applications, systems and data. The aim is for users to be able to access exactly the resources they need for their tasks – no more and no less.
Typical functions include single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, session management and policy-based access decisions made in real time. Access management thus covers ongoing operations, while the assignment, review and certification of permissions falls under identity governance and administration. Together, both form Identity and Access Management.
Especially in cloud and hybrid environments with many applications, powerful access management determines the level of transparency and the size of the attack surface: every access is centrally authenticated, authorized and logged. The area is thus one of the supporting pillars of Identity Security.
