As SPIEGEL-Verlag expanded its digital services and increased its reliance on cloud-based applications, the demands placed on data protection also grew significantly. In addition to Microsoft 365, the company introduced several business-critical SaaS platforms including Atlassian products, Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft Entra ID.
The existing backup solution no longer provided comprehensive protection across this increasingly diverse application landscape. As a result, the IT department began searching for a centralized backup strategy capable of reliably protecting all business-critical applications while reducing administrative complexity.
At the same time, the organization required transparent licensing costs, rapid recovery of individual data objects, and the assurance that backup data would remain stored within Germany. Together with Serviceware, SPIEGEL-Verlag evaluated a platform that could satisfy these requirements while providing a scalable foundation for future digital growth.
These developments placed increasing demands on the IT organization. Beyond ensuring the availability of business systems, IT needed to guarantee that critical data could be restored quickly whenever necessary. Consequently, business continuity, information security, cyber resilience, and regulatory compliance became increasingly important.
Responsibility for this infrastructure lies with Miroslav Najda, Head of IT Operations and DevOps at SPIEGEL-Verlag. Together with his team, he ensures that the company's IT architecture continues to evolve alongside the growing requirements of a modern digital media organization. In addition to maintaining stable operations, his responsibilities include security concepts, backup strategies, and the ongoing development of the cloud landscape.
